Because my mystery novel, "Lucid", explores the world of dreams, I am keeping a diary of my own personal dream experiences in this blog.

Last Night I Dreamt a bird came in through my bedroom window. At first it was fairly small; it looked like some sort of small, black crane. I was holding one of my dogs back, thinking he might scare the bird…but it seemed that my dog was more scared of the bird than the other way round. The only one the bird seemed to be frightened of was me. When I approached the bird he became defensive. He stood very upright and stretched out his neck, and began to grow and grow, until he was taller than I was, with a great long neck that reached up to the ceiling. Then he extended his wings outward, revealing his enormous wingspan. I immediately said, ‘I have to get a photo of this’ and ran off to get my camera. I aimed at the bird and pressed the shutter button…but nothing happened. I tried many times to photograph the bird, but my camera refused to work. I even fetched my other camera, but that wouldn’t work either, so I asked my husband to snap a picture with his cellphone. He was able to take a picture, but when we checked the phone, the photo had vanished. Weirder still, when I was looking at it through my camera, the bird didn’t look like a bird at all. It looked like a man with a strange, eerie face, holding his arms outward just the way the bird had held out its wings.

Last Night I Dreamt I was staying in a very strange house that was apparently haunted. There was a team of young men and women who either had superhuman powers, or were just very knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with ghosts. Their job was to protect the rest of us.
Everything in the house was normal until 7pm each night, when the team would spring into action. I was in a room when 7pm struck. The team came along yelling at me to “Get out, get out!” But I was too late…as I ran to the door it slammed violently shut in my face. I was terrified, trapped in the dark room, but the team managed to get the door open. Light was a very important factor, and we all had to stay in the light and keep away from the shadows.
I remember seeing my first ghost. It began as a bluish, translucent mist, but as it floated toward me, it took the shape of a cardboard mailing box (complete with postage stamps). The whole thing was see-through and blue-gray; it looked almost like an x-ray. As it floated by, I raised my hands and announced, “Ladies and gentleman, it’s official…I’ve just seen my first ghost!” The team was not amused. They told me to stay quiet and not anger the ghosts.
I remember two of the team members clearly; one an African man who spoke a language I didn’t know. I was able to figure out what he was saying, though, as I recognized the word for ‘seven’, and therefore knew he was talking about the all-important hour of 7pm. I also remember a blonde woman with a ponytail, who had blue eyes that were small and close together. She had one leg shorter than the other, and wore a special, raised shoe to even them out.

Last Night I Dreamt that the objects on my headboard kept changing. In my dream, I had two picture frames on the headboard, both with photos of people I don't actually know in them. I walked away from the bed and came back, and when I returned, the photos had changed into photos of two completely different people. So I continued walking away from the headboard and coming back, to see what would happen. The next time I did so, the photos were laying face down, and another time, one of the picture frames had turned into a marble. I remember being very excited, and thinking that the weird events meant that my room was haunted, and proved the existence of spirits.
I also had another dream that was almost like a night terror. I found myself caught halfway between being asleep and being awake. I woke up and opened my eyes (or thought I did), and looked up at the ceiling. I was shocked to see that certain items from my room (a pair of shorts, a book, a plant pot, etc.) had risen up and were now stuck to the ceiling! Again, I instantly thought that my room was haunted. I tried to turn my head to look around, but I was unable to move, as often happens in night terrors. I was terrified at the time, but I closed my eyes and tried to relax for a moment. When I opened my eyes again, the room was back to normal.

Last Night I Dreamt I was in charge of protecting a woman, possibly some sort of politician. We were in a car, and there were people following us in another vehicle. To escape, we pressed a few buttons, and the car converted into a helicopter! But as we were flying away, there was an earthquake, and for some reason it made the helicopter crash, even though we were high above the ground. I remember seeing the quake below and knowing that we were about to crash. I braced myself for that horrible feeling of falling. Luckily, though, we walked away from the crash without a scratch! We set off on foot, down a busy street, watching the faces of all the people to see if any of them looked like they could be a threat to the politician. I spotted a man in a dark purple jacket, light purple shorts and a white T-Shirt. I was convinced, just by looking at him, that he was after us. The dream went off on a weird tangent after that. There was a turtle laying eggs, and a little creature that looked like a miniature bear came and stole one of the eggs. I knew the turtle species was endangered, so I tried to get the egg back from the bear, but it fell and smashed. I felt really bad, because now the egg was of no use to either the turtle or the bear.

Last Night I Dreamt I was in a really creepy, old mansion. It was so big a person could get lost in it. The whole interior was done in beautiful, dark wood. There were some strange, round, wooden structures with holes in the top. Someone was telling me that water came out of the holes, and that they were drinking fountains for the frogs! Apparently, the place was also haunted. There were lots of people there, and they were all seeing a male ghost. I was sad because I was the only person there who couldn't see him. Then I remembered that, even though I couldn't see the male ghost, I had seen two other ghosts; a woman and a young girl. I just hadn’t realize that they were ghosts at the time I’d seen them. The woman ghost had a bright yellow face, and the child ghost wore a pink dress. I wanted to look for them again, but I was warned not to go, because somebody said that because the woman ghost had a bright yellow face, that meant she was evil. I ignored the warnings, and went to find the ghosts. I was able to get photographs of both of them.

Last night I dreamt I was in my old house in England, where I grew up. I heard a loud, shuddering sound and ran to the window. I saw a huge shadow going over the house. It looked as though a gigantic bird had flown over the roof, and I was seeing the shadow of its tail. There appeared to be some construction going on nearby, and there were huge, round, plastic containers lying around the construction site. The ground shook so badly from the sound of whatever had flown overhead, that the plastic containers started flying up in the air. I ran to the opposite side of the house to look out of another window. I saw that what had flown over was not a bird, but an enormous airplane. It looked so heavy I couldn't imagine how it had gotten off the ground. Someone was standing behind, me telling me that it was some new model of airplane that had just come out. As I watched it flying along, this amazing, super-plane suddenly started making sharp, right angle turns in the air!

Last Night I Dreamt that one of my teeth fell out. It was in 4 pieces and I was trying to fit the bits back together like a jigsaw puzzle, and put the tooth back into the hole in my gums. Of course, the pieces wouldn't stay in place. I have had the teeth-falling-out dream many times. I have heard of other people dreaming about losing teeth too. I wonder why?

Last Night I Dreamt I was at an amusement park. I was in a little boat floating around a small lake. Apparently, a lot of people had been killed at this amusement park, on the roller coasters and other rides. It appeared that the park staff didn't think this was a big deal, and they had just dumped the bodies by the side of the lake and left them to rot! I remember the bodies being brown and very slimy and mushy. They were decomposing before my eyes! They almost looked as if they were melting. Worst of all, I could hear awful squishy noises as parts of the bodies slid off and landed on the ground. At one point I fell out of the boat and into the lake. I remember being under the water and looking up to the surface, which was covered with flies and other insects. It was a very vivid dream.
Last Night I Dreamt that I was out running with my dad. I saw two girls running ahead of us, and decided to race them. I overtook them easily, but when I next looked around, I couldn't see my dad anywhere. I started looking for him, and ended up in a hospital. There, I was told by a doctor to get a band-aid 'for the red haired girl'. I went into a room and asked the nurses there for a band-aid. They had so many band-aids of different sizes and colors and shapes. They asked me what kind I needed. I said I didn't know...all I knew was that it was for the red haired girl.
